About John Lyne

John Lyne established Dairytech Nutrition in 2001 after 30 years in the dairy industry.
Over those thirty years John had sought advice, had pursued scientific development related to dairy farming, both animal and agronomic sciences, attended coutless seminars and presentations by industry providers, but felt an emptiness in regard to practical application of much of this theory.
Throughout his dairying career many attempts were made to apply what he considered ‘good science’, at times from passion for results orientated dairying, and at times from desperation!

A mix of successes and abject failures produced a grid or paradigm for viewing what was important and likely to bear fruit, and what was of little significance.
Perhaps the wisdom that comes with age!

Dairytech Nutrition was born out of these two experiences, compounded by reaching an age of wanting to be relieved of the daily manual commitment associated with operating a dairy farm, yet driven by a relentless passion for dairy farming and productivity.
John grew up in metropolitan Australia with a life long goal to be a dairy farmer.
His dairy industry experience began in the late 1960’s in milk marketing and distribution, with a clear vision of his goal.
He began share farming in the mid 70’s, has managed large operations and owned his own farm.
His dairy farming has spanned two states, including irrigation dairy farming, both sprayline and flood, and concluded in Western Victoria in dryland farming.
Without the daily farm commitment, John has been able, often driven by client’s specific problems or needs, to research and study, dairy nutrition most specifically, issues effecting Australian grazing productivity. Through these research probes he has developed relationships with overseas experts and academics who have further enriched Dairytech Nutrition’s resources.
Similarly, time has enabled overseas travel related to dairy farming, and likewise, has born synergetic relationships between overseas dairy technology companies and Dairytech Nutrition for the development of nutrition products here in Australia. This involves importation of high-tech ingredients and manufacturing processes to enable Dairytech Nutrition to manufacture finished products in Australia.
Newspaper Column
John writes a monthly column on dairy productivity which is published in seven regional newspapers across four states. Past articles are available in our Library:
Dairytech Nutrition is a company totally committed to dairy production
Our core focus revolves around monthly farm visits to our client’s farms, reviewing current feeding, ration analysis, current on-farm issues, all of which are summerised annually in the form of a Feed Budget Post-Mortem, an analysis of the past twelves month’s feeding and milk responses including monthly Income Over Feed Cost data. From this we prepare a Feed Budget for the next twelve months based on strengths and weaknesses of the Feed Budget Post-Mortem. These budgets are prepared in July each year as we see that as an ideal time to plan for the ensuing production year, especially summer feeding.
